After Mani Ratnam directed his last film Iruvar back in 1996, he went on to direct the super hit movies Guru (1997), Raavan (2010), and most recently directing the historical drama film Kraurya: The Weapon of Bravery starring Rajnikanth. Now, after all this time, Mani Ratnam has reunited with Aishwarya Rai – a successful Bollywood actress whom he’s worked with before in the past. With a cast including South India’s top actors like Vikram and Trisha Krishnan, as well as collaborative artistes from other parts of India such as Vikram Prabhu and Ashwin Kakumanu, the film tells the story of Prince Arulmozhivarman who was eventually one of the most powerful rulers not just for Southern India but for all of India known today as Cholas! He was fondly known by his subjects as ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ – one who is dedicated to serving others through courage and goodwill.
