Rohan Sippy’s series on Zee5, Mithya , is somewhat reminiscent of the British mini-series, Cheat , written by Anvita Dutt and Althea Kaushal. One way to build a mystery is with an unreliable narrator. Viewers may feel shortchanged if they feel misled. This can be frustrating as a viewer doesn’t want to invest their time in such narratives that have pointless or lazy misdirection tactics used in them. The main reason behind this is to hook viewers who might otherwise not have been interested in the story being presented. What makes the situation worse is that it’s very obvious the writers are wasting our time because most viewers are aware of this fact – making its inclusion a redundant addition intended for shock value than anything else that could create intrigue or suspense out of unwitting audiences.
