I have always refrained from watching dubbed films, especially those in Hindi of specific regional films because so much can get lost in translation. I generally stick to watching the original language versions with subtitles or ones that have been translated into other languages that I might be more comfortable with. This includes films from my own country like Telugu films, which are at times dubbed into Hindi and watchable only if you are prepared for quite a few of the words being different than what you expect. I, however, decided to give it one final chance recently when I saw Pushpa: The Rise, particularly because it was directed by Sukumar who has made some great movies before (Arya 1), but this film unfortunately doesn’t come anywhere close to any of his past offerings mainly because it is very difficult to convey the local flavour of a particular region when language becomes a barrier during such an act.
