The makers of Kabir Khan’s exhilarating sports drama ’83 are a concerned bunch. Though the film is bound to be a blockbuster hit (it’s expected to make more than Rs 1 billion) this high budget film can never make its money back. “The final budget of the movie was around Rs 80 crores with action sequences that cost over Rs 25 crores, closely followed by our promotional campaign which cost nearly double the price of what we paid the actors.” says one member of the production team. The most expensive segment though was spent on procuring original footage from NBC archives from 1982 and paying for access to digital technology that would allow us to convert them into 3D for our audience. It wasn’t cheap but we believe in producing quality work and that was what it took.
